In my personal e-mail today, I received no less than three e-mails that got through my spam filters that I would categorize as “phishing”. What is phishing? Phishing is an attempt to steal personal information with phrases like “update your account information now to avoid being deactivated” or “we have noticed some suspicious activity on your account.” The phishing e-mail typically contains a URL link to a convincing-looking website asking you divulge personal information. In most cases, if you look at the URL, you’ll notice that it is bogus. Be suspicious, be very suspicious. The Anti-Phishing Working Group has posted so excellent tips to avoid be suckered.
